On Monday the Company presented the committee with an overview of the industry from an economic point of view and Alaska’s relative position within the industry. The Company reiterated their commitment to pay "market-based wages and market-based health care." After this presentation they presented their proposal

Highlights of their proposal include (as of date of signing):

• 8.44% raise for each step of the technician pay scale

• 8.44% raise for all except top step of the technician helper/janitor pay scale

• Down year pay-scale adjustments based on market average rates (with no negative or downward adjustments)

• License premiums increase to 1.51 per hour (+.11)

• Elimination of the Line Premium and Longevity pay

• Elimination of double-time pay in the overtime rates of pay

• The adoption of the Company Management medical plan and premiums

• 4 - year duration from date of signing

Our committee evaluated their proposal and made several requests for information to aid us in preparing our counter proposal. We expect to be prepared to respond during our next round of negotiations which start on March 29.

We then moved into discussion on Article 2 Scope. We presented our comprehensive proposal which included job protection language as well as defining what work is covered by our Agreement. The Company has not yet responded to our proposal.

Article 8 – Field Service and Special Projects. As referenced in the last two updates the committees are discussing the idea of an AOG Team concept to perform major repairs to out of service aircraft on the system. Wednesday and Thursday focused specifically on this issue. Much progress was made in developing language that would benefit both parties by providing opportunities for our members to perform repairs that are currently being sub-contracted to third-party maintenance vendors. We’ll keep you advised as this Article and concept is worked through.

As always, we would like to thank the observers that were in attendance and encourage others to attend in the future during this important process. Due to security issues at the Gold Coast Center some members may have problems gaining access through the key-pad doors. Signs will be posted next to each door with the telephone number to call for those needing admittance assistance.

The next round of AMFA – ASA negotiations in Seattle; will take place at the Gold Coast Center, dates listed below. Please watch the Local 14 website for any updated information.

For additional negotiation information and other AMFA carrier updates, please call the AMFA National Hotline at (800)-520-AMFA (2632).
