Dear Members:

July started out with completing a trip to Local 32 in PHX. As I reported last month, I attended their Local Membership Meeting and had the opportunity to meet with their members and Officers. Now it is back to the normal task of my job. While administrative work is not nearly as interesting as getting out meeting with and talking to the membership, I understand that just like in aircraft maintenance the job is not complete until the paperwork is finished. Proper documentation is a vital part of our jobs.

Along with the weekly NEC conference calls I continued the process of reviewing and renewing the insurance coverage for AMFA National and the Locals and expect this will be completed in early August.

The second week of August will be the quarterly Joint Advisory Council (JAC) Meeting where the Local Officers, Representatives, and National Executive Council (NEC) meet to discuss issues and to provide direction to the NEC in pursuing the objectives and goals of the Association. I have been working to collect and prioritize the agenda items to be discussed at this meeting. The JAC attendees have selected SEA as the location for this meeting and I have been working on finding and arranging a suitable and economical hotel for the attendees as well as a venue for the meeting.

The AMFA National staff and I have been working on testing and perfecting the new version of our membership and dues management software. We expect to go live with the new software in August and look forward to training and assisting the Locals in using it.

We now have the combined proposals submitted by the Alaska Airlines (ASA) members from Locals 14 and 32 and are working toward getting them out to the ASA members for the prioritization vote. We expect to have ballots mailed to the membership within the next two weeks. This vote is the membership’s opportunity to provide direction to their contract negotiation committee. I encourage all ASA members to take part in this important process.

I look forward to August with the JAC Meeting, the Charles Taylor presentation at the Museum of Flight, and the opportunity to personally meet and speak with our members in SEA.
