Dear Members:

The first week of March2010, the National Executive Council (NEC) conducted our regular weekly Conference Call and I started the process of selecting a hotel for the next Joint Advisory Council (JAC) Meeting. This week I also filed the application to renew our Department of Labor (DOL) required insurance policy, worked on the usual business of reviewing and approving invoices, expense reports, legal bills, replying to emails and phone calls, as well as other administrative tasks.

The second week of March, I participated on the weekly NEC Conference Call. I started to receive proposals from hotels and compile their costs, amenities, availability and whether or not they were a Union hotel to host the next JAC Meeting to be held in Las Vegas the second week of May. The insurance binder came back from our broker and the Association was able to secure the same coverage at a reduced cost for the next three years. I also started to research another training option for the Association.

The third week of March, after the NEC Conference Call, I worked on compiling and editing articles and pictures submitted for the Grapevine. Many more hotels proposals came in for hosting the JAC Meeting and the information was added to the list for comparison. I also worked on the usual administrative tasks and further research on union training.

The fourth week of March, the NEC held our weekly conference call. I worked on the usual business of administrative work which was pleasantly interrupted by the opportunity to accompany the Local 11 President Keith Poole and Treasurer Robert Wooster to visit the Mesaba members in DTW. The Mesaba members were conducting their station bid, which allowed us the opportunity to speak with the majority of the members. Local 11 brought donuts and bagels for the morning and pizza for the afternoon. We also had the new FAA Enforcement Handbooks, Constitutions, and AMFA stickers available. The Local was able to get Local contact sheets back from those that came by and will be ordering and sending T-shirts out soon.

The last week of March, I participated on the weekly NEC Conference Call, putting together the Grapevine, and attempted to file our LM-2 form. Amazingly, even though the DOL requires electronic submission using Adobe Acrobat (PDF), their system does not support the latest version of Adobe. After calling the DOL, I was assured that they are working on the system and promised that next year it will be much easier – we shall see. Throughout the month I also worked on the details of the ASAP elections at our carriers. Watch for further details on bulletin boards, the Locals’ Web sites, and National’s Web site in regard filling these vital positions.
