Dear Members: In the first week of January, 2010 I ventured to the City of Phoenix for the first NEC meeting of 2010. While in PHX, I was privileged to attend the Local 32 Local Executive Council (LEC) meeting on Tuesday and the monthly membership meeting on Wednesday. The meetings were very productive and informative with the culmination being the witnessing of the swearing in of the new LEC members for local 32. I then visited with several of the Alaska mechanics as well as the Southwest Airlines mechanics in attendance. This was a great trip as it allowed me to get to know my fellow NEC members better and to be thankful that we, as AMFA mechanics, have this bunch of guys looking out for your union. In the second week of January I participated in the Southwest Airlines Appearance Tech. Negotiations in Dallas. AMFA was well represented by the ALRs: Mike Young – Airline Representative Local 32, Lee Rhame – Airline Representative Local 11, James Kinnerk – Airline Representative Local 18, and Carla Foster - Appearance Technician Representative. Also, I would like to thank the observers, Sandra Oestreich, Edward A Wilturner, and Kenneth Dawson from Houston, Darlene D. Warren, from Dallas, and Dave Widerski from Phoenix. In the third and fourth weeks of January I participated in the NEC conference calls. In all four weeks, I have also continued with my agenda Items, such as some American FBOs practice of Importing Foreign workers, securing shirts for the NEC and having them available for the locals to purchase. The more purchased, the cheaper they are. God Bless the United States of America, and the best Aircraft Mechanic Union in the world: AMFA. |
