AMFA and Alaska Airlines met in Seattle, WA on October 22, 2018, for a one-day session to discuss an Alaska Airlines–Virgin America Transition Agreement. We delivered a Transition Agreement proposal, and after a lengthy discussion, we were very close to reaching an agreement in principal. Towards the end of our session, we asked Kurt Kinder to agree in writing that if this Transition Agreement passes, he will bring back the Airbus outsourced maintenance of “A” check and below to be worked by AMFA represented technicians as he has stated to this Negotiating Committee and to our members. This led to a vigorous discussion, and our session concluded without reaching an agreement.

The points that we did tentatively agree to include proposed enhancements to the following:

  • No contract extension

  • Ratification bonus of $2500

  • Increases to shift differentials:

    • Swing shift from $0.60 to $0.65 per hour

    • Grave shift from $0.75 to $1.10 per hour

    • Relief shift $0.80 to $1.10 per hour

  • Longevity allowance increases:

    • Ten (10) through fifteen (15) years: from $0.15 to $ 0.25 per hour

    • Sixteen (16) through twenty (20) years: from $0.20 to $ 0.30 per hour

    • Twenty-one (21) through twenty-five (25) years: from $0.25 to $ 0.40 per hour

    • Twenty-six (26) through twenty-nine (29) years: from $0.30 to $ 0.50 per hour

  • Increase in matching 401(k) to dollar for dollar up to 7.5%

  • Letter of Agreement #9 revised to include all active members of the bargaining unit as of the time of issuance of single certification and amended to include JFK. DAL was removed from the listed stations as the Airbus technicians will be furloughed as of November 5, due to the ending of all Airbus and Boeing flights out of DAL.

We have tentatively scheduled our next session for November 8, 2018, in Anchorage and are hopeful that an agreement may soon be reached to bring our two work groups together.

Fraternally,

Your Negotiating Committee
